Biological Reserve
Under current Bahia State laws it is required that no more than 80% of any piece of virgin cerrado land can be cleared for agricultural purposes, i.e. this means that 20% of any piece of land must be set aside as a biological reserve, (A riparian, or an ecological pathway or corridor). It is known as “Reserva Legal”. This protects the indigenous plants and animals and some of their habitat, not causing complete destruction as many people may have mentally pictured. These “biodiversity corridors” are simply to insure the interconnection of natural ecosystems. The reserve land will be placed on the farm so as to be of minimal impact to the reserve inhabitants and to be of least hindrance to the farming operations.
As an investor there will be the opportunity to buy solely into the reserve land and not be a part of the agricultural enterprise – thus owning your own piece of native cerrado (which is still part of the original entire property). It is intended that these investors are to study the flora and fauna in the reserve and work on the preservation of the species there in.
