About Nova Brazilanidia Ltda
Literally translated means New Brazil Land; and because we are New Zealanders we thought it was appealing as New Brazil-Zealand, with new land being developed.
We are a husband and wife team of James and Sacha Thomson. We are born and bred New Zealand agriculturalists. We spent a number of years living in Nevada, USA; and are now running a 7500Ha crop farm in Ukraine.
James, for the first 20 years of his life grew up on a sheep, dairy, beef and agro forestry farm in the North Island. And Sacha grew up on a sheep and mixed cropping farm in the South Island of New Zealand. After completing high school we both moved to Christchurch where we attended University, which is where we met. James attended the University of Canterbury - Forestry School from 1995 – 1997 studying for a Batchelor of Forestry Science degree. He also gained a National Certificate of Forestry (Silverculture). Also in 1994 he attended the Taranaki Polytechnic and gained a Herd Managers Certificate. Sacha attended Lincoln University and gained a double degree; Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism co-joint with Hotel and Institutional Management.
In late 1997 James finished university and started his own successful forestry contracting company with a working staff of 30, they worked in the establishment of plantation forestry in New Zealand. Clients ranged from local farmers through to multinational investment companies. James took care of all the work on the ground and quality control through to job procurement and also all the daily financial requirements, (with the help of Sacha in the office). In 1999 Sacha graduated university and began marketing for Wilson and Horton Newspapers and in her spare time took care of all the paperwork for James T. Fores-Tree Ltd.
In 2001 we traveled through the America's (North to South) as well as parts of U.K. and Europe, Asia and Australia. Two years later we returned to New Zealand where James re-started his forestry company turning over a million dollars in the first year. And Sacha did the book keeping again and also worked as a travel agent and part time for PriceWaterHouse Coopers, an accounting firm.
In late 2004 we obtained our USA residency and in 2005 moved to Nevada, where we worked on a large dairy feed lot unit specializing in organic milk and hay production. At the end of 2008 we moved to Brazil and pushed along all the development process for the farm. Currently we are running a 7500Ha crop farm in Ukraine where our main objective apart from the necessary money making, is to implement modern western style agricultural practices.
During our travels we explored the prospect of agricultural investment. And from all the places we have seen Brazil is by far the most appealing for many different reasons, including the price of land, quality of land, sufficient rainfall, cost of labor, scope for advancement and the export links to Europe and USA (2 major consumers). It also became very clear to us that the world is fast becoming one and the fact that traditional production centers are not necessarily going to continue to grow as they have done in the past. There are new and developing areas using new and highly technologically advanced production methods. Traditional boundaries do not exist like they did 10 years ago and if the current rate of development continues; the world will look very different in the future compared to how we know it today.
With both of us having strong agricultural and business orientated minds we have decided upon Fazenda Nova Brazilandia Ltd's vision. Through our travels we have chosen this part of the world to be the most suitable and in particular the Western part of the State of Bahia, Brazil stands out as the best option for land acquisition for the development of Fazenda Nova Brazilandia Ltd's vision. The vision of Nova Brazilandia Ltd is of complete integration of crop and animal production into a single diversified enterprise. Nova Brazilandia Ltd will not only stand out as an agricultural example but lead the way into Brazil’s successful agricultural future, feeding the growing world population.
Nova Brazilandia Ltd now owns an 1188ha farm (which is in two titles) in Western Bahia which is currently being developed into a dry land crop farm. Future plans are to irrigate 400Ha. Now with the help of other likeminded investors this vision will become a reality, a financially rewarding investment and a leader in the necessary sustainable growth for the future of worldwide development.
